Despite being the easier to raise of the two most popular domesticated pets, quite a bit more goes into rearing a cat than most people think.
Ideation
Having recently adopted a kitten of my own when I created this, I wanted to design a graphically interesting infographic on how to raise a kitten. I had always been drawn to single-line drawings and decided to challenge myself in creating a poster made with only hand-drawn, single-line images. Ideation began with mapping out the steps I wanted to include, and possible imagery I could utilize for each step.
From there, I came up with a rough draft of the layout, focusing primarily on the drawn images and creating a visually interesting design that wasn’t difficult to follow.
The left is my first draft. I received feedback on the wordiness of the paragraphs overwhelming the page, as well as possibly making designs smaller. I had already had plans to add an additional pop of color to the design, however our first drafts had to be in black and white.
The right is my second draft. I added in some light pinks for each drawing and significantly lessened the wordiness of the descriptive paragraphs. Finally, I made some of the paragraphs more organic, letting them flow freely around the drawings which helped with the balance of the poster, despite its random nature.
Deliverables
The final deliverable was a printed poster shared during final critique.
